When it comes to blogging and online business, you can be involved in a flurry of activity and be unprofitable.
I know this, because I was this person!
Thankfully, those days of fruitless work are over. In fact, in a YouTube video I recorded about a month ago, I talked about how much money I made online in 2018.
Last year, I made just over $22,000 as a side hustle with my online business.
If you missed it, you can watch it here.
These days I am working hard on being intentional with my time and efforts so that I continue to grow my income.
In this post, I am outlining the 10 online business tools that are helping me make money online RIGHT NOW.
10 online business tools that are helping me make money online RIGHT NOW
Most of my blog traffic comes from Pinterest and this is exciting because I get around 17,000-20,000 page views per month.
When I get qualified traffic, a percentage of that traffic converts into people who sign up for my e-mail list and go on to buy my digital products or buy products through my affiliate links.
While I’m excited about the traffic, banking my hopes on one platform to bring blog traffic is unwise.
What if Pinterest goes away tomorrow?
Thus, I have been delving more into creating content that is also optimized for search engines.
Keywords Everywhere is a simple Google Chrome Extension that gives you immediate statistics on how many people are searching for a keyword or key phrase.
It will even give you related search phrases which you can incorporate into your content if you want. It is a truly brilliant tool and yes, I have noticed an improvement in my traffic from search engines since I began paying attention to it for my blog and YouTube channel.
Forest is a Google Chrome plugin that prevents me from going down the YouTube rabbit hole when I want to concentrate on my work.
Once you switch Forest on, it blocks out social media websites so that you don’t fall into the trap.
Forest is also a timer and so, you can set it so that you work uninterrupted for an hour.
Many a productive moments have happened because of this online tool!
Screencast-o-matic is a screen capture software that allows me to record my screen and voice when I create online courses.
Digital product sales accounted for around 10% of my overall income last year and this year I plan on increasing it by creating mini-courses for you beautiful people.
Screencast-o-matic is just $15 for an entire year. This is way cheaper than it’s more expensive counterpart Camtasia and you get a lot of the same capabilities.
Awesome Screenshot is another Google Chrome Extension that allows me to take screenshots and embed them into posts like I have here.
If you’re creator of any sort, I highly recommend that you install it in your browser.
Your e-mail list is EVERYTHING. I don’t care if you have a blog, a podcast, a YouTube channel or a physical brick and mortar store.
You should be building your e-mail list.
Because the people on your e-mail list have given you permission to send them information about your products and services.
Also when someone signs up for your e-mail list for a freebie you have on your website, they are telling you that they have a pressing need in that particular area. If you can follow up on that pressing need and offer them a paid product or service that meets that need, you will be helping them AND making money in the process.
I use Active Campaign because I love the analytics they provide me and since I started using them, more people have bought from me than in the past. Yes, I prefer it over a free tool like Mailchimp. Although if Mailchimp is all you can afford right now, I say go for it!
I used to just have forms littered around my website in my attempt to build an e-mail list.
This brought me subscribers alright but once I started building landing pages, the number of people signing up for my e-mail list increased dramatically.
LeadPages is usually the tool everyone talks about but I have found Thrive Landing Pages to be an EXCELLENT alternative to LeadPages-for a fraction of the price.
I create all my freebie documents as well as eBooks here. If you don’t have Microsoft Word, Google Docs is amazing for creating all your documents!
I also love the fact that I can edit things even if I’m away from home.
All the graphics for my blog, YouTube channel and my paid products are made in Canva.
It’s free and if you are not graphic-design savvy like me, Canva is such an easy tool to use.
I sell my digital products via Gumroad. I love it because I get analytics like these (obviously, I am a numbers girl!):
They will even give you analytics on where buyers are coming from and what your conversion rate is on those channels so you can strengthen those.
Gumroad is also free to use. They take a very small fee when you make a sale.
I have a freelance business and PayPal is how I invoice my clients and get paid.
Several companies I’m an affiliate for also pay commission via PayPal.
I have heard a number of people give a bad review about PayPal but I am yet to experience any of it.
Wave Apps is an accounting software that helps me keep my money life together especially during this time of the year when we have to sit down and do taxes.
It is also nice to be able to see how my income is growing each month and what I can do to strengthen various areas so I can grow even more.
